Engine quit? There`s an App for that. Xavion is a fascinating new app that asks the question: How good an A-I copilot and backup system can an iPad be, if it uses all of the information that ...
Can you imagine flying single engine IFR at night or not even IFR but at night Xavion will help you tremendously and could be a lifesaver And what helps you too is the ability to practice at home with X plane simulation Fly in the area you gonna fly and fly in the plane you re gonna fly take your iPad with Xavion and practice                     A must for SE IFR FlyingCaesar
Meyers is a crook and a scam artist He took money from hundreds of people with this app early on and then reneged on the deal Good app Unfortunately it is run by Myers the crook Can t trust him Zero integrity And unfortunately we need to be able to trust the material in the app but when it s Myers is putting it in everything comes into question then         Scam Artist Set The Bar High
Excellent situation awareness terrain avoidance and emergency landing guidance Xavion works on an iPhone as well as it does on an iPad I mount it next to my undersized cockpit console and have complete panel back up in case of electrical failure I use earbuds underneath my headset for audible terrain avoidance alerts When I get ADS B I will also enjoy traffic alerts Xavion works seamlessly with X Plane for flight planning and proficiency simulation With Seattle Avionics subscriptions additional do you have moving me up display on VFR Sectional IFR Enroute charts and Approach Plates All I would ask in addition to these features is a one touch transition between approach plates and Highway in the sky guidance to the threshold                     Life saving tool Motorglider
As a new pilot I found this app adds to my sense of situational awareness on many levels from an accurate weight balance envelope to confidence in knowing where to land upon a power failure The weight balance envelope feature is fantastic for my 2 place trainer where useful payload weight capacity is on the light side and balance tends aft heavy I have tested the engine out feature and yes the app will guide you via hoops right down to the nearest airport runway in an engine failure I use Xavion running FlyQ on an i pad mini on a RAM mount with a Bose A20 headset a bluetooth Garmin GLO WAAS GPS and a Uvionix Ping ADSB in for weather traffic I am looking forward to using Xavion in the future with the levil BOM with AHRS                     It just works toolmanabc
This is the most amazing technology in my airplane                     Technology iweshuff
I have flown with this app for several years It gives you the piece of mind you need to always know your path to the best suitable airport Amazingly put together Runs great when populated with your aircrafts individual data points Developer is always providing great updates and always improving the app                     Another great update Bn_Cm
Xavion constantly looks for landing sites based on actual weather and is invaluable to me as I fly                     Unique invaluable addition to cockpit JeffDBoston
As a student I always have this running on a crosscountry While Florida may be flat knowing where you can put down safely takes a lot of the guess work out if you are busy flying                     Never fly without Spiscean
I m an avid flight simmer and very familiar with Austin s greatest work X Plane Global 10 now Up to 10 45v Now Connect Xavion to your copy of X Plane From your iPad or iPhone Set up engine to fail and the real fun starts I have done that many time in flight sim without Xavion with not too many good landing Now turn on Xavion and experience some real sim fun and good real time practice to get you ready for real flying of real life situation that will arise in real flight sometime Great to be ready when it does happen Great app nothing left out no stone unturned Larry J                     Austin asked me to review this app WE Travel RV
Was surprised to find my 5 star review from 4 years ago was the only one listed under current reviews I tried to delete but couldn t Issue was that expensive app was originally sold stating that no updates would be needed since airports don t move Some time later developer decided that expensive yearly updates were mandatory and no refund offered to those who bought under false pretenses I took my hundred dollar loss and walked away The app was good not sure how it is anymore and other apps that can be used WITH moving maps like Foreflight have probably overshadowed It s probably still a good app but doubt it s a good value             Ouch Flybuddy2
Truly innovative safety technology that no one else has matched Update Although ForeFlight now has glide circle calculations only Xavion depicts wake turbulence from nearby aircraft That is thinking outside the box Great idea and nice implementation I use Xavion on my iPhone 6S in parallel to ForeFlight on my iPad Xavion give me highway in the sky guidance to an emergency landing plus wake turbulence depictions in real time It is also a complete backup for navigation and synthetic vision if all else goes blank Earlier review This app is perhaps the most important safety device in my plane It is amazing what it can do It is one thing to know where the nearest runway is it is quite another to have the best glide path including highway in the sky boxes accounting for winds and terrain This app will save your butt not only if your engine goes quiet but if you are in IMC and you lose power vacuum or if your pitot freezes over It calculates your indicated airspeed based on weather data AHRS information and GPS DATA It becomes your backup glass cockpit all on your iPad Original review This app is really thinking outside the box The developer ignored the universal paradigm of just following along on a map then adding bells and whistles Xavion starts with the idea that the most important thing we need is a backup panel and immediate guidance to glide to the nearest airport So it shines as a safety device Yes it will also get you to your destination and display approach and enroute charts as well as weather and traffic but when the engine coughs you do not have to start twisting knobs and looking for the nearest airport then trying to figure out if you can glide to it Xavion gives you an exact glide path taking into account the properties of your aircraft winds etc You can even fly hoops right to the threshold It takes a bit of set up because the app needs to know the glide characteristics of your plane but that is just a matter of taking your plane up and getting some numbers This is disruptive technology Plus given its power the cost including in app purchases is a true bargain One thing I strongly recommend getting a good external AHRS unit like iLevel although the app WILL work with IPad internal accelerometers and GPS just not quite as well One more thing There are a couple of haters who keep posting negative reviews not because the app is bad but because they want it free even though it now includes regular massive data updates designed to make sure you can safely glide to an actual functioning airport not one that has since been turned into an office park This app is so innovative and so important to flight safety I am happy to support the developer as he continues to make improvements regularly I never fly without this app You shouldn t either                     Awesome Breakthrough Technology nvpatentlawyer
I have been using Xavion for a few years now It is a revolutionary app that provides another safety backup for us while flying We have dedicated a new iPad Pro 10 5 to this app on the co pilots side of our aircraft After performing the glide tests in out Cessna T210 we now know the expected performance and glide range we get in an engine out emergency Testing it by hitting the EMER button and flying through the gates down to the closest airport takes a lot of pressure off in an emergency situation It is also possible to set it up and test it using X plane with whichever aircraft you have installed in your sim The new wake turbulence display is a good example of how forward thinking this app is and it can possibly save your light plane from having a dangerous wake encounter Flying in the northern California bay area there are plenty of large aircraft climbing or descending through our flight path as we approach some of the airports along the peninsula A wake encounter while performing an IFR approach is something I prefer to avoid As far as the subscription I think the price is quite fair Along with this apps subscription I continue my subscription to the Seattle Avionics FlyQ EFB app which also gets me the data for this and a nice plates app I highly recommend this app with an ADS B equipped in out aircraft which allows you to be better prepared for an engine out or power loss scenario                     A revolutionary saftey app for pilots flying light aircraft M Taylor CA
I have been an XAVION subscriber for a couple of years now and this App should be part of any GA pilot s EFB suite The support and continual development is first rate and the features focus on a critical element of flying safely Getting safely to the ground in an emergency Although some Navigational Apps now include a Glide Ring to assist pilots on glide distance none as far as I know are as comprehensive as XAVION The only small drawback to the App is in the setup the user guide should be more descriptive YouTube videos on how to work through all the pertinent screens to input the various parameters would be helpful                 An Aviation App that should get more attention RobFCAV
Great backup for emergency landing in both VFR and especially IFR I practice using with XPlane Great App I Fly a C172                     Emergency IBowhunt62
Using only in training for now but I m finding it to be intuitive and completely reliable as well as a material value add to the cockpit                     Excellent app marrahm
For all those Charles Lindburgh CFI s who think this is unneccesary good for you For the rest of us who want to move into the 20th century and embrace technology to possibly save our bacon this is the app for you I have been able to watch Xavion grow and am continually amazed at this product For the price NOTHING IS EVEN CLOSE If you really need a bunch of half hack pilots to tell you whether you need this then just move on Drop 20k in some kind of SV from Avidyne or Garmin I ll gladly take an iPad and Xavion Fly safe                     Epic SomeoneSomebody11
It s hard not to like the boxes in the sky that guide you to the nearest airport based on your airplane s own engine out glide parameters I m thinking if the pilot of that commercial plane down in Chili recently just had this app on his iPhone when the plane ran out of fuel at night at altitude he likely could have glided to safety and been more calm with the reassurance of the boxes guiding to a safe landing field Instead he was obviously panicked as we all likely would have been and glided into a non survivable landing The artificial horizon with synthetic vision is great generated with just the iPhone s sensors wish ForeFlight did that However as far as flight recording the app sometimes stops recording the flight when I do touch and goes Using it as an inflight moving map and flight planning is just not worth the additional Seattle subscription It doesn t have the ability and features of ForeFlight so it doesn t make sense for me to pay for two monthly map subscriptions ForeFlight has also just added glide advisor so fly thru boxes probably aren t far behind I now just run ForeFlight on my iPad and Xavion right next to it on my iphone 6plus I have no horizon indicating instruments in my low end VFR plane When flying in marginal weather recently I inadvertently found my self in the clouds The synthetic vision on Xavion allowed me to make a nice relaxed u turn back into VFR conditions And maybe the author of this app when asking me for a review could add a third button later instead of chastising me when I selected no because I was busy and telling me thanks for nothing                 Not all inclusive Redlc1
And it s the only app of its kind If you fly a small plane you should use this app It s a dirt cheap insurance policy The subscription is understandable considering the ongoing map data upkeep required by the developer                     This app saves lives Steeeeeev H
When the engine quits and sooner or later it will there are a lot of decisions to be made Where am I going to land Is there a suitable airport nearby Which airport is best Based on current winds and my position which runway is best How much altitude do I need to lose What flight path will get me to the airport at the right altitude to make the runway and not overshoot it Computers are WAY better at calculating answers to those questions than humans are let alone a human under the stress of a life threatening situation Xavion keeps track of all that and provides a clear graphical emergency glide and landing plan the second you need it I doubt a large corporation would provide such an app for fear of liability I am grateful that Austin has been willing to provide this essential safety tool I never want to find myself descending with a failed engine craning my neck to try to spot an airport in the darkness below Xavion makes sure I won t have to do that I won t fly without it                     Saves lives An essential safety tool MarkAardsma
I purchased Xavion a relatively expensive app in its early stages with the express knowledge that it did not require a subscription service Austin Meyer developer of Xavion and X Plane has since updated the app such that it requires a monthly subscription service to function I do not need a monthly subscription to provide my navigation as I have 200k of certified avionics to do that I questioned him about this his response is below I personally will not do business with someone so arrogant and that uses deceptive business practices He calls his customers who are doctors and lawyers stupid a great customer service strategy You decide Austin Meyer s unedited response now NO And there NEVER WILL BE If you have an out of data subscription and an engine failure then Xavion could in that case guide you to a shopping mall housing development industrial center or other area where innocent people would be killed be your obsolete database Naturally I could not care less if you elect to kill YOURSELF to save nine dollars and ninety nine cents per month that type of idiocy is your perogative no doubt BUUUUUT I won t contribute to your killing the innocent people on the ground So no austin And another unedited response I think the problem here is that you THOUGHT that always current nav data is FREE so that I was charging you for no reason But what actually happened is it turned out I had to BUY current data so that my App would always have it for each customer And since we need that current data forever and I have to pay for it annually forever to get it to you there is no way I can deliver it for free And there is no way I am going to contribute to an accident by having my customers fly with old data So there is simply no other way to do the job right We have to pay annually or monthly to try it for just a month to have everything working perfectly And as for your refusal to spend 9 99 month or 99 year to HAVE everything working perfectly that problem is entirely between your ears as you already know You already know that the price is negligible compared to the service you just refuse to spend it because you THINK that I am trying to cheat you but you only THINK that because you do not understand that I have to pay for the data to make the App work perfectly so providing that data to you for free forever is simply not an option austin     Buyer Beware Firehawk335
As a 950hr private pilot with instrument rating I have tested Xavion s engine out glide paths many times and it has always worked Gliding to a hard surface airport that s easy to see would be nice but I m not within range of those very often But I found using Xavion I m almost always in range of a private grass strip Xavion sees those as well and will reliably lead you to it even on a moonless night That s a safety blanket I like having                     I won t fly without this app Pyrokerry
Great work Austin I use this app every time I fly Can t beat the situational awareness this app provides Allows me to concentrate on other aspects of flying It s like having a co pilot that knows the area with you no matter where you go It s fun trying to pick out the airports that Xavion knows are there and knows whether or not you can make the field but you may not even see it yet                     Awesome App 36096Pilot
I have this app open on every flight it makes my passengers feel much safer as they can always see what we would do if engine or avionics quit Also it gives me another backup for ALL charts procedures for instrument flight                     Great app for aviators Dale Gramm
I like the new extended centerline feature I fly with Xavion on every flight and it keeps getting better Austin was forced to upgrade the METARS source when NWS shut down the old online site The whiners complaining about huge monthly costs are full of it A safety critical App like Xavion must remain current No one who actually flies airplanes thinks that 9 95 a month is huge That sum won t buy 2 gallons of avgas at many fields Update v1 80 sudom123 needs to get life The change in the fee structure was years ago and Austin Meyer bent over backwards to be fair to everyone Trying to sabotage the app with 1 star reviews when it is plain that Sodom hasn t used the app in years is childish and dishonest The app continues to improve I m especially pleased with the increased time to extend retractable landing gear I fly with Xavion on every flight and would feel naked without my AI copilot End update I am quite happy that Xavion now has current Nav database updates and of course improvements to the app are always welcome I think the price is a bargain I like Xavion so much I bought a 2nd iPad so that I could run it all the time Then I bought a Sagetech Clarity GPS AHRS to get ADSB and weather better GPS accuracy and useful synthetic vision from Xavion I ve spent 2 000 to have the full functionality of Xavion and I consider it money well spent The griping about 10 or 20 a month seems silly to me I was paying Honeywell over 30 a month just for nav database updates That was for the VistaNav synthetic vision on a tablet it lacked many of Xavion s features but it did have up to date nav data Honeywell never updated my version of that app and stopped supporting it this year I don t want that to happen to Xavion I will be spending close to 20 000 to get ADSB out in my cockpit a new GPS nav com purchased at half of MSRP new transponder and the labor to install it all Every airplane in the fleet has just over 5 years to do something similar I imagine the market will provide some less expensive solutions but I m certain that none of those solutions will be 99 20 per month Xavion is not a game or a toy It provides new aviation functions and features that can t be found in the cockpits of multi million dollar private jets and commercial airliners It does this for less money than you d pay to park overnight at many fields The main reason I want Xavion is to assist me in landing safely after the engine has failed That requires current data I won t have the option of going somewhere else if the airport has been closed something that happens all too often My main concern about the original version of Xavion was the 4 year old database I want Xavion in the cockpit with me full time period I must have reliable data when flying the airplane after an engine failure I will happily pay 20 a month for that I have no financial interests and have never met Austin It would be a terrible loss if he pulled this app because of complaints and bad reviews from a group of people who will pay 240 and on many airplanes much more to fill their fuel tanks Any pilot who has made a 100 hamburger flight knows that Xavion is a screaming bargain                     Big step forward Expman
What more can I add to the previously well said reviews                     A great app that just keeps getting better trirat
It is beyond me how you can sell someone a product that includes an airport database that is essential to that products core function and then take it away from them and make them pay to get it back Im gone     Doubled Billed and Overpriced
100 for the app and now he slides in 120 a year to use it He said he was considering a subscription based model for updates he never said it would make the app useless without it The setup is so complicated I never even got to use it Bad form sir     What a waste of 100
This isnt a review of the app but about the whining pilots in the reviews Yeah we get it you made a onetime purchase and now feel gypped You were gypped Get over it I recall lots of complaints about the old version that it wasnt being updated airports etc were out of date no improvements to the app That didnt surprise me as lots of software should be sold by subscription not a onetime purchase Now with a subscription hopefully this will be kept current If its too expensive for you delete it and move on I dont want to see your whining here I want honest reviews as to its usability Now to the app The first problem I ran into was it doesnt honor iOS copypaste so I cant paste in the long random password I use for accounts              Pilots biggest cheapskates on the planet
This app is really thinking outside the box The developer ignored the universal paradigm of just following along on a map then adding bells and whistles Xavion starts with the idea that the most important thing we need is a backup panel and immediate guidance to glide to the nearest airport So it shines as a safety device Yes it will also get you to your destination and display approach and enroute charts as well as weather and traffic but when the engine coughs you do not have to start twisting knobs and looking for the nearest airport then trying to figure out if you can glide to it Xavion gives you an exact glide path taking into account the properties of your aircraft winds etc You can even fly hoops right to the threshold It takes a bit of setup because the app needs to know the glide characteristics of your plane but that is just a matter of taking your plane up and getting some numbers This is disruptive technology Plus given its power the cost including inapp purchases is a true bargain One thing I strongly recommend getting a good external AHRS unit like iLevel although the app WILL work with IPad internal accelerometers and GPS just not quite as well                 Breakthrough Technology
We were an original adopter and user of this program The 100 initial app fee was a bit hard to swallow but based on an email exchange with the developer was told that was all wed ever pay Now with this upgrade we find the product we purchased is no longer usable Must make another purchase to regain the previous functionality This is just wrong and unfair I can not recommend this product due to the business practices of the developer     Had such promise
I loved this app in its early days I practiced power off landings very successfully Now the app requires that you not only pay for the app but also for a subscription to make the app usable this was not what I paid 100 for and I would not have bought it if I had known down the line I would be limited Wasted 100 bring back the old version get rid of subscriptions or refund me     Converted to forced monthly charges
Paid 10000 for the app when first released As an early adopter for the new version I was then charged 099 per month for airport data until this month Now to continue the subscription it is 20000 per year or 20 per month     Bait and Switch is Correct
I wasted no time buying this app for 100 even used rare to never thats a great price until they started making you pay extra for the maps that started off free I bought this app solely for its emergency functionality and Im disappointed that that feature is now being held hostage in a bid to compete with foreflight I absolutely refuse to spend money on both xavion and foreflight when I only fly with ONE iPhone        this is almost a bait and switch
The developer originally provided a onetime purchase of 99 but has now colluded with Apple to make this app nonfunctional regardless of the owners choice to update or not It is now nonfunctional on iOS 7 or 8 unless a very expensive subscription is purchased As the only unique feature is the poweroff glide hoops its cost is ridiculous compared to much more complete and userfriendly apps such as WingX or Foreflight WARNING Do not update this app or your iOS past 6 if you want to keep using your expensive older app Even though I havent updated the app it will not work on iOS8 and somehow mysteriously updated to the current costly subscription version without my consent App now useless Will not trust this developer again with any of my money     Ripoff
I had previously rated this app 4 stars but am downgrading after the recent upgrade that added a monthly subscription The functionality is great and could really save your life But Im in the same camp as many other users and very disappointed with the baitandswitch of the recent upgrade I was an early adopter and paid the 100 purchase price because we were promised there would never be an additional fee it was explicitly stated in the app description Now in addition to 100 up front it is 120year to use the basic functionality of this app Disappointing for an app with so much promise Keep the dirty side down     Bait and switch is disappointing
This is the best aviation app ever Your life depends on it Every pilot should have this                 Best aviation app ever
First and foremost Ive been a fan of this app since its inception Ive even emailed Austin a couple of times asking for his advice which he kindly replied each time He struck me as a nice man with the best of intentions But watching this whole new update come out and seeing what Austin has done to his early supporters is a little disturbing The early supporters have in essence been given the middle finger with one hand and the open palm of greed with the otherdemanding more money As a man requesting peoples trust you follow through with your promiseswritten or otherwise expressed When Xavion came out you said the App was a one time purchase You had hundreds of supporters Dont you think you should honor the original arrangement to those who helped get the app to the big leagues Im sure you can figure a way to fix this Youre a genius Austin Dont become an evil genius        Is greed trumping integrity
This is the most incredible app EVER developed for pilots Since installing Xavion it has increased my enjoyment of flying because of the added safety margin it provides on every flight Just like the old American Express commerical slogan said Dont leave home or the ground without it                 Xavion
Ignore all the whining reviewers that are too cheap to pay a very reasonable price for a fantastic application and data services Those people have no idea what it takes to deliver something like this When youre pilot in command you have to be ready to answer the question where do I put the airplane if something goes wrong Its a pop quiz with no warning and despite your best skills and judgement you may come up with the wrong answer on your own This application is something you want helping you if that time ever comes Austins done a fantastic job                 This app will save lives
Initial 9900 purchase included map data Update to app removed my data and now requires an expensive monthly update After the first few flights I stopped sing the app anyway but reticulum that the author rips off his customers this way Do not buy     Ripped me off
I love this app The only problem it had was that there wasnt a way to receive updates to the airport database Now with the latest version that is no longer an issue The complainers about the pricing structure are obviously not thinking about what it might feel like to lose an engine and not have a clue where to go The author has even changed the update price temporarily to 99 cents so that everyone who has the app can get the latest update to the database for practically nothing This is not a game app This could be your life were talking about here Anyone who fails to see the flexibility he is offering especially now is pretty shortsighted in my opinion There is a huge amount of development cost and liability issues that the author has to be concerned with I ask the other members of the vast majority of us users who agree with me that this ability to always have a current airport database is worth a measly 999 a month and a veritable steal at 99 cents a month to add your vote to this review Austin please dont let the shortsighted few ruin this great app for the rest of us                 Genius app can save your life
This game stinks dont get it     Stinks
The app itself is very good but the transition to a monthly fee for updated chartswhile of the best intentionsis a disservice to us early adopters We were sold this app as a one time purchase Explicitly stated Now our purchase has been rendered useless without notice or consultation If you dont but the updates it no longer works Once trust has been lost it is difficult to reestablish This app asks us to trust it to deliver us to a emergency landing when we lose an engine I no longer trust it or by extension Mr Myers company     Also unhappy
There is no doubt about the lifesaving quality of this tool as long as the guidance it provides draws on a current database of prospective locations to put down As a mountain pilot I cant just land anywhere as most places are completely unsuitable In other words the terrain where I fly is mostly vertical I am grateful to Austin for caring about other pilots enough to make this wonderful tool available to all at a nominal cost                 Genius App Can Save Your Life supporting review
After customizing to your aircraft another great reason to go fly Engine out Press the emergency buttonFly the hoopsall the way down to the available airport Priceless peace of mind Cost of an app which makes that happen Not even close to being a factor Now with charts overlay and ultra smooth panning this can even be used tactically and even more so with devices like iLevil or similar for WAASGPS AHRS and ADSB traffic and weather Well worth the nominal price given you get all the charts that are available from Seattle Avionics Weight and balance toologs each flight Quick handy notepadthe list goes onand on Most key for me is that the map continually shows posible airports to glide to given my position so I can always tell if it might be a cornfield for sure or maybe an airport Id be terminating my flight into in case of troubles You just cant beat that                 Best Aviation App for Safety in Flight
I bought this app and paid 99 under the description that I other fees would apply but what do you know Now this app is useless unless I sign up for an annual 200 subscription You should either refund those of us who paid the 99 or grandfather us with no annual fee     Bait and Switched
Xavion is a wonderful app and is worth 100 I can also understand a subscription to chart data as a reasonable addition at 120 per year However the additional fee of 120 per year for airport data is way over the top This does not make sense and I hope this policy is reconsidered Xavion has just become significantly overpriced and I feel that Austin has let me down and this from one of his most ardent supporters since his earliest versions of XPlane in the mid 90s        Complete agreement
Really enjoy this app Once I got working with it and put in the info it needs it is a great app Used it in the archer I rent and used a suction mount to put it over the horizon and dg Had my own little glass cockpit The emergency landing portion did just as advertised Started out clean and needed turns and room to get to the airport As I added flaps it showed me needing a more direct route to the field Used it on two flights so far and it is working great                 Great app
A niche app for pistonengine pilots who fly at night or IFR Hard to imagine a nonprofessional becoming proficient enough with app to actually use it successfully in event of engine out So I suspect money is better spent on training or flying commercial when the weather is bad        Unlikely to Be Useful
Energy management to a safe location of a powered airplane that is now a glider is VERY challenging especially during an emergency Ive been extensively flight testing this software for the past week and can attest to its amazing capability to search the government airport database to find the best airport for your situation and display a Hiway In The Sky HITS for you to glide through to a successful power off landing No this is NOT Foreflight and its not meant to be But it is a valuable emergency tool to keep an eye out for you on how best to get to an airport Ive found comfort while just cruising along watching it watch out for me The 99 centsmo to have an up to date airport database for this App is the best buck Ive spent to help save my life and the airplane              An important emergency tool
The app is continually being improved Im looking forward to getting the ability to add nonairport waypoints such as RNAV and VOR fixes in the future Keep up the good work Doc Rath FAA Senior AME USAF Flight Surgeon              Great flight app
I cant even describe how useful this app is It takes all the other pilot aid apps and puts them to shame Ill never fly again without it Thank you                 The Future of Flight
I made a large purchase of this app spending 100 on something that was simple and a stable backup For its purpose it met the requirements The description assured that we would have updates for the life of the app BUT once the app was updated to require a Nav subscription the functionality was taken away from me Gone Unless I spend 120 per year my initial investment is useless I refuse I paid a large sum for an app that worked and now it does not I dont want a refund I want the full functionality of the app I paid for You changed the rules Xavion do what is right and grandfather in those of us who purchased early We trusted you     I want the app that I paid 100 for
Let me start by saying when I first bought the app I tested it both on x plane and in the real plane and it worked great The problem is I found out by surprise that my app I had bought was now disabled unless I buy a subscription I dont run the app frequently and didnt find out until recently about the change to subscription I am glad I didnt find this out the first time during a real emergency as the app would not have worked For those of you who are calling those of us who are upset about buying the app for 100 dollars and now unable to use what we paid for we have a right to be upset If you bought something from a company and then that company came and took it away and said give us more money if you want it back I would bet you would upset too As far as being cheap when it comes to aviation and safety I keep my database for my 430w up to date with a regular subscription I always have up to date charts and plates via subscription I fly with an instructor several times a year and all my currencys are up to date I just cant swallow paying another 120 a year for chart data I already have This app is a nice to have but isnt the be all end all if you have an emergency To the company I under stand you need to make money If you want to start charging a subscription thats fine But rendering the app useless that I paid for unless I start paying more was wrong of you and you know it At minimum I should still be able to use the app with what it came with without paying more money I wont do business with you again     Beware
Feeling robbed I was an early adopter and spent so much time setting up this very difficult to use software and now all of a sudden it only works with an overpriced subscription Other software lets you enter for example your Seattle Av credentials so you are not paying multiple times for the same aviation data Not here     99 wasted on the now useless app
This was a 99 app to start with and with this update it just became useless unless you are willing to shell out a whole lot more money The subscription is more expensive than ForeFlight I understand the need for more accurate maps but this isnt the primary navigation app The subscription rates need to be far more reasonable Additionally the UI for configuring an aircraft is difficult on an IPad and nearly impossible on an iPhone I like the potential of this app but execution could be better and price definitely needs to come down        Nice but just got more expensive
I spent a Benjamin on this app only for the developer to announce that it will now require another 10mo to keep the very functionality that I just spent 100 for Not cool guys        Getting a bit greedy
Some articles indicate 100 fixed price some say 99 annual subscription Still make sense The real price is 199 for the annual subscription Way too high I like the app however with this price point it wont fly for me           Great app but way overpriced
I have Xavion running on a dedicated iPad mounted on the right yoke Setup was easy using data from the POH and an actual flight I leave it on the Glide page at the top are the goal posts that guide you to a nearby runway and at the bottom is a birds eye view of the path you need to fly For a single engine pilot this app is heaven sent                 Like a friend who has your back
I run this app on my iPhone 6Plus as my iPad 2 is not up to running it and the other software at the same time it is connected to a Sagetech Clarity with AHRS I tried using Xavion on a long cross countryHouston to Tucson last week and have decided to stop my subscription For now I think that this technology has tremendious potential and I will be watching it closely Bottom Line for me it is not quite worth the money for a subscription It is not a Full up EFB so you will need to have another subscription if you want one of those I admit that I am a techno geek with an iPhone iPad garmin 750 and legacy Garmin 496 in my cockpit I highly recommend that you buy a months worth of database and try it for yourself You could very easly discover that you will find Xavion usefull in YOUR cockpit in detail here is what I found 1 it hogs the Clarity data I also use another EFB and it would lose access to the ADSB and AHRS data when I had Xavion running I need the ADSB data for weather and traffic data 2 The Weight and Balance section lacks flexibility I have defined a number of extra stations form my C182 to allow for additional flexibility in working WB problems no such capability here and yet by the very nature of the calculations in the app it is important to have the WeightCG correct I would have loved to have been able to just put in my takeoff weight and CG with a fuel load gallons without the other stations I could have used the data from my WB app to update Xavion With a fuel load information the app could approximate the current fuel weight just by knowing when the takeoff was and how long the flight has been 3Data entry on my 6 is fairly hard on the couch and much more difficult in the cockpit with any kind of turbulance The only place this is really a problem is the FMS Altitude setting the rest of the data entry is stuff you would want to enter on the ground WB CG envelope etc The sliders work really well if precesion is not needed brightness volume 4 the FMS has a limited number of waypoints On my long xcountry I found that I exceeded the number of available points Data entry was hard on my iPhone 6 with the little keyboard Whats to Like 1 The Emergency Guidancewith HITS capability This alone was almost enough for me to maintain my subscription even with the app running in the background it converged fast enough to be a real help in an emergency when it was made the primary app 2 I really like the take off log with good WB information it could really help my technique and willingness to use shorter runways Bottom Line for me it is not quite worth the money for a subscription It is not a Full up EFB so you will need to have another subscription if you want one of those I admit that I am a techno geek with an iPhone iPad garmin 750 and legacy Garmin 496 in my cockpit I highly recommend that you buy a months worth of database and try it for yourself You could very easly discover that you will find Xavion usefull in YOUR cockpit           Great Potential not quite up to speed
I am quite happy that Xavion now has current Nav database updates and of course improvements to the app are always welcome I think the price is a bargain I like Xavion so much I bought a 2nd iPad so that I could run it all the time Then I bought a Sagetech Clarity GPSAHRS to get ADSB and weather better GPS accuracy and useful synthetic vision from Xavion Ive spent 2000 to have the full functionality of Xavion and I consider it money well spent The griping about 10 or 20 a month seems silly to me I was paying Honeywell over 30 a month just for nav database updates That was for the VistaNav synthetic vision on a tablet it lacked many of Xavions features but it did have up to date nav data Honeywell never updated my version of that app and stopped supporting it this year I dont want that to happen to Xavion I will be spending close to 20000 to get ADSBout in my cockpit a new GPS navcom purchased at half of MSRP new transponder and the labor to install it all Every airplane in the fleet has just over 5 years to do something similar I imagine the market will provide some less expensive solutions but Im certain that none of those solutions will be 99 20 per month Xavion is not a game or a toy It provides new aviation functions and features that cant be found in the cockpits of multi million dollar private jets and commercial airliners It does this for less money than youd pay to park overnight at many fields The main reason I want Xavion is to assist me in landing safely after the engine has failed That requires current data I wont have the option of going somewhere else if the airport has been closed something that happens all too often My main concern about the original version of Xavion was the 4 year old database I want Xavion in the cockpit with me full time period I must have reliable data when flying the airplane after an engine failure I will happily pay 20 a month for that I have no financial interests and have never met Austin It would be a terrible loss if he pulled this app because of complaints and bad reviews from a group of people who will pay 240 and on many airplanes much more to fill their fuel tanks Any pilot who has made a 100 hamburger flight knows that Xavion is a screaming bargain                 Big step forward
I am ashamed to be associated with such cheap pilots This is a great app and I would be willing to bet if it saved your life or that of a loved one 1000 a month would seem like a real bargain These same cheap pilots probably use outdated pubs do not keep up with their maintenanceinspections get yearly refresher training ect This product offers a life saving solutiona solution that not even the most advanced avionics suite offers and you people whine like a jet engine at 102 N2 Really Really Honestly your rating indicates your level of cheapnesswith 1 star being the most cheap I would be embarrassed if I were you                 Pilots are Cheap
With the new update Xavion has become useless for its primary function providing emergency landing guidance unless you pay 120year for digital data updates more than any other EFB app charges for full nav charts and thats on top of the 100 app purchase price Only the 120 doesnt get you nav charts If you want those youll have to pay up another 120year And since Xavion isnt particularly good as a preflight planning app which is fine on its own I originally bought it for the inflight functionality youre going to want to have a subscription to Foreflight or WingX on top of that Xavion used to be a fantastic purchase offering excellent functionality for a onetime 100 purchase a great complement to a fullfeatured subscription EFB app Now its just not worth it     Bad new pricing scheme
The developer originally advertised Xavion as a onetime 99 purchase No subscriptions no recurring fees Then he changed the rules and introduced a monthly fee to use the app even for folks who had purchased it when he promised it would not require a subscription He also refused requests for refunds If you buy this app or any other app from this developer expect bait and switch tactics in the future     Buyer beware
Im a big fan of Mr Meyer and the aviation programs that he has come up with over the years I am excited about Xavion because it seems like a great idea but after downloading it and paying for a months subscription I was very surprised to see that the subscription doesnt include charts I missed this fact when downloading because I assumed with a price like 240year everything should be included This app should be no more than Garmin pilot or ForeFlight which can be had for 99year As I said great app but way too expensive I will not be continuing my subscription until the price is realist        Great ideatoo expensive
Do NOT read the negative comments This is the ONLY app in existence that offers the life saving capability of TOTAL engine and avionics failure It WILL save your life and your airplane Watch the YouTube videos for PROOF 120 a year for charts may be a little steep but your funeral will cost thousands A Buy it                 How much is YOUR life worth
For 22 years flying single my subconscious was always looking for a place to land Now I have XAVION with updated maps Nice Thank you Austin you made my flight much more enjoyable                 The most helpful app in my cockpit
This is one of the most important safety apps ever written for pilots Ive been using it for a year and its amazing Thank you Austin                 A must have app for every pilot
Great app The only reason it didnt get 5 stars is the menus and functions are a bit utilitarian and confusing to learn If this developer works on intuitive interface elements then itll be a 5 star win for sure Key points Author company responds to support requests Adds to safety without being a techdistraction Encourages situational awareness Fun              Pretty awesome
Be aware that this update renders your previous 100 app purchase useless for the emergency landing intended purpose It removes airport data unless you subscribe to a new 10 month fee Outrageous and I cant believe Apple allows this business practice I hope the author realizes this was a very bad decision     Early Adopter
The app had promise As an early adopter and beta tester I was hopeful After several unsuccessful attempts to make the app work I finally deleted it and accepted the 100 loss Too bad this app could have been a real winner if the developer stuck to the original offering and fixed the functionality     Good ConceptFunctionality MarginalCost HighDeleted it
Just completed a dozen power off in our aircraft Cant wait for the auto pilot system to arrive Love the constant situation awareness for emergency options and the data available at a fingertip Using Xavion with Xplane for trip planning and simulation trip is awesome Thanks for all the great work                 Fantastic
I was an early adopter and a Beta tester for this app It was originally implied that there was only a one time fee of 99 dollars and no monthly fees That has all changed and so has my opinion of the developer and this app The early adopters have been duped I would never have paid 99 dollars for this app if I knew there was going to be a monthly fee added on later Not worth it     Deceived
It is hard to believe that a product like this can be run on an iPad instead of a Cray The information it generates and the presentation are outstanding I recently flew from Phoenix to Denver on a moonless night There were several stretches over the mountains where I made sure Xavion was open and running Seeing what airports are available and reachable if the big fan out front stops spinning is a huge relief and much better than the nearest page on a GNS Every pilot should support Xavion and XAvionics                 Incredible App
Selling a product for 9999 and then pulling this subscription crap Shame on you App deleted and from now on anyone who asks about Xavion I will tell my story And it wont be a nice one Shame on you     You should be ashamed
