Alliances are shattering, and hasty diplomatic treaties are made in secrecy. A confrontation of the superpowers seems inevitable only the outcome of the galactic conflict remains to be seen. Which faction will emerge victorious ...
This is hands down the most fun game there is I have played the board game maybe a handful of times but its so hard getting people together to play With this game on my iPad I can play against anyone online or just play against a computer Literally endless hours of fun with this Its taking me awhile to remember all of the rules and I still keep losing to the computer but the ease of just pulling out the iPad and playing wherever im at is super nice                 Best Strategy Game for iOS
I received this game as a gift It is a lot of fun The interface is very streamlined and intuitive The tutorial is helpful although I couldnt find a way to start in the middle of it after exiting out to the menu I also cant find where to see how many discovery tiles a player has taken for 2VP                 Very fun
UPDATE Having played it a fair amount over the past year Ive now found a couple of flaws that I didnt see at first 1 Random number generator 52 dice 3 6s lost battle and ruined 7 turn game I have more examples but this is broken and ruins the experience 2 Better AI I realize theres a lot of complex decisions here but it doesnt know how to focus on the leader and run an economy I constantly makes meaningless moves and has to give up control of hexes at the end of the turn The user interface is VERY good I have easy access to all of the information that I need to make a decision I would like to have one button that pulls up everyones current status points tech upgrades funds etc The graphics look great on my iPad 4 I wish I could put this on my Mac so that as it would benefit from the larger screen but this is an excellent start Now that its been out there for 1 year its time to update this to fix the random number generator improve the AI and add Rise of the Ancients Id pay a few for the latter        Great User Interface and Good AI
Gameplay for a single player vs computer takes about 30 minutes Classic 4x played in rounds and turns Lots of variations in strategy But boy does it eat your battery              Fun 4x game but uses a lot of battery
Seriously good                 Awesome game
5 stars except for major bug the game wont let you change influence over sectors you capture in the last round All the AIs can but you cant           Good but
This game plays faithfully to the board game I am willing to play this game any time I can get 4 likewise minded people together The online side is lacking You can only do the online side live and with one other person unless you arrange for the players to meet on line simultaneously I would prefer the mechanic similar to the Stone Age mechanic I am disappointed that none of the several expansions have been incorporated in the game The modified order as to the order that you pass or the option to run the order clockwise or CCW would be interesting as well              Wonderful game
Eclipse is a great board game and this is a solid implementation Therere a couple of longstanding issues though especially around influence and the Rise of the Ancients expansion but Big Daddy Creations is silent on ever fixingadding anything here It seems like its pretty much been abandoned while Neuroshima Hex gets constant updates           Great game but unfinished and abandoned
Except for a few minor network bugs and a few slightly annoying interface designs this game is an absolute masterpiece It is easily best asynchronous ios strategy game available and one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played It has given me dozens of hours of fun and makes the workday much easier to get through I highly recommend Eclipse to any strategy fan                 Flawed masterpiece
I love this board game and I love this mobile Its complex though and the biggest problem is that If you accidentally leave the tutorial you cant go back to it So if you are new to the game dont leave the tutorial Its a crucial walk through Also this game doesnt include the expansion races a minor disappointment              Great board game turn mobile game
Amazing Get it                 Yup
Very well balanced game very good replay value Every game is different because of randomized exploring and tech tree and of course different race combinations Highly recommend to anyone that likes board games that involve empire building and multiple resource management                 Good game
I love that this is just like the board game When can we get Rise of the Ancients                 Just like board game
And I have quite a few Very well designed and makes great use of space A few improvements and I would give this game 5 stars 1 AI could be improved Even on the most difficult level where the AI has an advantage its fairly easy to beat if youve played several times 2 bug If you eliminate a player the game doesnt seem to know what to do and just stops at the eliminated players turn No way to finish the game 3 Would love to see them come out with the expansion pack for the iPad              My favorite game on my iPad
I gave up on the tutorial the first time I tried I eventually played the physical board game and it made sense              Easier if you have played
Just like the board game but better because of the animations                 Brilliant
Glad this made it to the iPad I would love to see the expansion                 Great board game adaption
Pass n play works like a charm I play this with my spouse while streaming to Apple Tv and that makes it even more fun Very in depth but the turn limit prevents games for running too long Beautiful space strategy game just beautiful                 Wonderful family fun
They did a good job in keeping with the feel of the board game Ai is weak but pass and play is fun if you do not have the time and space to set up the real game Nothing can match a table top game but this does a good job                 Just like the board game but without the massive setup
Eclipse mostly scratches that giant hextile thousand piece 4x space epicboardgame stuffedinatouchscreentablet itch Mostly And thats a good thing It manages to boil down the best parts of the genre into a tidy strategic package Until I get FFGs Twilight Imperium in app form this will suffice I particularly like how you can switch parts in and out on your ships though the missiles are simply overpowered Whomever collects that card firstwhoa boy Look out I just wish there was an online community for it Every time I pop onto itcrickets chirping              Mostly harmless
Im sure I am going to love this game but I have some major issues with the tutorial I will gladly bump up my rating when they are fixed So far barely two rounds in the only issues I have are straightforward and easily reparable 1 the grammar punctuation spelling and syntax are jarring and embarrassing For the most part I understand the various points the tutorial is trying to make but for such a professionallycrafted app I expect good clear English I hope the tabletop version of the game doesnt have this issue in the printed rules 2 My playing through the tutorial has been interrupted twice and each time I had to start it over The first time was due to my exiting to the main menu because I thought the tutorial had frozen when in fact I just hadnt realized there was more text within one of the slideswindows so it wasnt clear that one could scroll within this segment and the second was when I had exited the app but not forceclosed it In each case I had no way to resume the tutorial Frustrating to say the least Now I realize I will need to commit to an uninterrupted window Im guessing at least 30 minutes to go all the way through the tutorial without pausing Please fix these issues since they are very basic     Poor tutorial fix for 5 stars
I am really enjoying it Glad I purchased it                 Awesome strategy game
I would have liked it if there was hot seat mode but the game is still really great                 Lots of fun
Excellent game but I cannot fathom why the expansion stuff isnt available Gets old playing as the same few races over and over plus I know the expansion adds a lot of great elements           Needs Expansion
After all this time there are still bugs Thats ridiculous I have received only one notification of a new round at the very start of the game We are currently in round 7 The new round notification is extremely important and contains important information Why am I supposed to be penalized in this manner Is it so darn difficult to ensure every player receives the notification        Still bugs
Big Daddys Creations the app developer has come up with another great game Its a deep strategy game with a fantastic tutorial to get you started I also love their other games like Neuroshima Hex and Caylus                 Great strategy game
I really want to like this game but the UI panning zooming etc is very sluggish Also it often takes a couple seconds for taps to register No idea why a graphically simple game would be so interminably slow It really wrecks the experience        Sluggish UI on iPad3
This is a fun game to play but there are some problems The UI is great but some of the scoring is not clear at the end Where do all the points come from How many points did each player get from the ancients Also if you dont watch closely you will not know what each of the previous players did I understand this is a serious problem when playing multiplayer              Fun game but some problems
If you have played the board game and liked it you will love this If you didnt know this is an adaption of a board game you may want to do a little research before you buy                 If you like the board game buy this
Had six powered up ships Went to attack ancient Immediately kicked out of battle after I clicked attack and lost all ships Made me lose the game     Glitches on fully updated iPad Air 2
An excellent adaptation of the boardgame Excellent fun                 True to boardgame total fun
No matter how many technologies Ive researched in a particular research category I always have to pay full price for a research action from that category Research discounts are not working at all Thats a pretty big bug for an app this old           Research discount bug
Love the game but would love expansions even more                 Great port
Better than Civ believe me All the 4x components work VERY well together and the game is not very hard to play once you understand the mechanics I find that the gameplay is VERY deep but still enjoyable since you will play through the entire game without dying and hence will get a great sense of accomplishment even if you lose I really do enjoy this game better than Civ                 Best 4x Ive played
Amending my review It really pains me to do this but I am lowering my rating to 3 stars Eclipse has gotten almost unplayable as an online game I had 8 games going about 3 weeks ago and one by one they all disappeared None of them got any deeper in than just a third into the game So just as the game starts getting interesting it is gone No explanation not even a hint as to why they are ending I dont believe it is from an inactive player causing the game to close out I had one 3player game that was going like gangbusters Generally a turn a day then one day I get on to do my turn and it has disappeared That tells me it is not an inactive player issue Only other thought is that a player could be just quitting but I have seen that in the past and the game didnt end It just played on without him That leaves me to think the game is getting into a bad state somehow and just dropping off the server As much as I LOVE the game I just cannot invest the time and energy getting excited about playing knowing it is just a matter of time before the matches I am in will just vanish The online community seems to also have died probably experiencing the same thing I am Used to be able to see players on there all the time Very little activity now The companys web site seems largely dead to me Almost feels like they are out of business No updates on products in years Their date stamps on entries dont include a year so you can never tell how old they are You occasionally see a blog post from a user requesting something but it seems to just go unanswered I am going to leave it on my iPad so I can see if there are updates to it but wont be playing anymore Sad day for me to come to this realization on my all time favorite iOS game Original review Hands down my favorite game on iOS Couple things I wish would change though 1 Online games have a tendency to to just disappear Little frustrating when you are getting close to winning and the game goes away 2 Would love to see the expansion ported over           My favorite game
While amazingly true to the board game functionally I wish they woulda used more of the familiar board game elements player boards cube placement dice rolling etc to keep a familiarity for the board gamers But thats just me nitpicking Great game                 Excellent port of my favorite board game
But dont support iPhone                 Great game
Very well made game Worth the 7 bucks Mechanics are great and the tutorial is golden It helped me teach my friends how to play the board game Very well done                 Great game
Eclipse is a challenging fun game of civilization exploration and expansion in space              Challenging 4x game
This port needs Rise of the Ancients to get five stars The original game was fun but RoA made it so much more fun           Needs RoA
Yeah this is a fun strategy type game Id seen it on Board Game Geek and noticed how it maintained a high rating for a long time Given how inexpensive the iOS version is compared to the boxed version it seemed like a nice way to try it out Im glad I did I find it hard to put down once Ive started a game and it only took a few games to hook me My only minor gripe is that the tutorial game barely introduces you to the game and you might get seriously beat up the first few games However this is a game that is worth the small learning curve required to actually get the hang of It seems complex at first but is actually simpler than you first imagine And simpler in a good way as your options are always limited and you dont have infinite choices but have to finely judge the field and try to make the best decision There is some randomness in drawing cells to explore but short of serious bad luck streak you can work around most things After losing my first few games I went looking for some beginner advice and hit upon Rahdos videos on Eclipse on Board Game Geek and that explained the basics pretty well The fundamental idea is to watch your influence tokens and realize that you use two for a successful explore or attack one to start the move and one to hold the cell if you get it You can get more influence tokens by getting more money or perhaps by researching Colonizations are free and can be done anytime and will pay you on the next round If you dont have enough money you have to let go of cells and will not get the payout so the main thing is to watch that carefully before making a move Great game I have to force myself not to try playing just one turn because that turns into two then three and so on you get the picture                 Just discovered it and love it
The application is well done it has a very good tutorial It plays just like the board game I have played the board game several times before and Im beginning to see a pattern whoever gets the plasma missiles first wins the game So basically the whole game comes down to a race for a weapon that due to luck you may or may not get to buy first You go into the game thinking you have a bunch of choices and ways to win but you dont You have only one path and that is to have enough science and to always be the first player every round so that you can grab the plasma missiles when they show up and win the game by annihilating your opponents        Faithful translation broken game
Eclipse is an excellent board game and though this iOS implementation can tend to be somewhat cluttered at times with a bit of patience it is quite a good game              Very good implementation of a great board game
The game mechanics are fairly simple making it more approachable than you might think from reading the description or looking at the screenshots Theres lots of entropy introduced by the randomised board and research items which is the primary source of replayability Be warned that it is very difficult though In the same way that playing chess against a grandmaster AI is difficult the AI does not make mistakes and has deep insight into all possible moves so it plays a nearoptimal long game The fundamentally random aspects of the game give you some chance but this is the kind of game you lose far more often than you win One notable flaw is the tutorial it doesnt cover a lot of crucial information So unfortunately youll just have to write off not just the tutorial but also your first ostensibly real game as a learning experience while you figure out by trialanderror many of the mechanics and all the strategy Sidenote Ive never played the original board game              Interesting but difficult
The map and interface is too cluttered There is a lot of info to be displayed but design is too busy tiring to look at Why not adopt original boardgame map design Do we need all these extra decorations and animation Tone down colors of the elements that are not critical for gameplay simplify things Once galaxy map is exploredrevealed its painful to look at and notice whos where and doing what Zooming is terribly sluggish Most of my gamenight folks gave up on ios version Good luck teaching a new player the game without the actual cardboard game The real boardgame is pure joy to play iOS version fails     Love the boardgame meh for ios verion
Shields do not work against missiles as they are supposed to ie as designed in the board game This makes the game one dimensional where the players who have missiles will most likely win and you have to try your best to get them I have emailed the developer about this but have heard nothing back so Im writing this to warn people There are other minor issues with the game but if the developers fixed this issue I would bump the rating up to a four        Major flaw in game
Excellent work The only thing I wish is that they would is add the expansions                 Unbelievable
Just wish I could play multiplayer online with AI                 Really makes a great board game into great iPad game
Please come out with the expansions for this game its great                 Great game
Plays just like the board game The board game is more fun because its live This is great practice as it gives you the chance to try different strategies against different alienhuman combos The best part imo is that the game moves very fast in local game mode because the AI doesnt have to think about their actions like real people do After a few games of this the board game is even more fun Great animation                 Just like the board game
