Desert Fox: The Battle of El Alamein

When I first bought the game I was expecting it to be worth it as I rarely spend too much money on apps I was also amazed at all the five star reviews But I found that it just wasnt too great like when you could only move units in one square in only one turn when a turn is especially quite big in some missions I think that it should be like five units or something since only a square isnt much Especially when there is only one unit in that square Just some things failed to amaze me Myself as a long time lover for strategy games wasnt amazed at it I hope the curators make a update to it What I want to see is more missions being more balanced and cheaper           Not worth 10

This is a well thought out game and very enjoyable with one exception The battle odds system is inherently inaccurate at calculating the outcome of a battle More often than not the least likely outcomes occur Id be okay if this happened once or twice a game but it happens way more often Too often in fact for me to believe that its just bad luck Also Ive had issues with it properly allocating the elite unit bonus for me though the computer AI seems to have no issues For those reasons I have to give this game three stars           I love it but

The game crashes under IOS 8 and there has been no fix for nearly 2 months     Crashes and no fix for a month

Ive been a wargamer for over four decades and am a former Armor officer This game brings back very fond memories of Avalon Hills Afrika Korps and the phenomenal Tobruk The execution is simply outstanding and the level of realism re supply and the fluid unpredictable nature of the war in North Africa make this the most addictive of Shenandoah Studios games to date My wish list France 1940 Stalingrad Kursk and Guadalcanal                 Shenandoahs Best Yet

It used to be a superb game but after upgrading to iOS 8 it starts to crash on a regular basis I have it on both an iPhone 5c and iPad 2 Havent seen an update of the game for a long time        Crashes all the time

Im a huge fan of the games that this company puts out I thought Battle of the Bulge and Drive on Moscow were superb games I really really want to put this game in the same category as the previous two game but Im finding I cant I simply did not find this game as compelling and interesting as BoB and DoM The graphics game mechanics etc are as good as always but I just have not enjoyed the scenarios as much I love the games that this company makes and Im happy to have bought this game to support what they do even though it was my least favorite of the 3 games theyve produced Cant wait for the next game              Not as Compelling

A good game though not as polished or well balanced as the two previous games in the series Battle of the Bulge and Drive on Moscow Unfortunately the game now crashes badly for me in multiplayer preventing me from taking my turnor even sending a message to the other player about the problem The developer was acquired by Slithering who have shown no interest in stability fixes Booooo        Crashy crashy crashy

The game repeatedly crashes at it calculates the enemy turn Ive had to give up that game If they can fix stability issues in subsequent patches and you like wargames go for it        Flawed but maybe worthwhile after patching

I was a big fan of Battle of the Bulge and am really excited about the third title in the series I cant wait for the upcoming Gettysburg game Looking forward to the multiplayer                 One of the few 5star hardcore games for iPad

Was Quite enjoyable Has depth AI is reasonably good though not as good as drive on Moscow Overall excellent game until the developer stopped supporting the app with iOS 8 Now weeks have passed since iOS 8 was released the game is broken crashing regularly and nothing other than well get back to you posted every week or so in their forums as response to numerous reports of problems If only Apple had a developers program to release updates to iOS months in advance wait a minute they do dont they     Shenandoah Studio MIA

I love this game but since upgrading to iOS 8 the game crashes after playing a few turns in campaign mode Closing and reopening the app doesnt help it crashes again on startup Reinstalling the app doesnt help either Anyone else experiencing this Any insight into updating the game to fix this bug           Great game but crashes under iOS 8

The app writes corrupted game state data as others have reported in their reviews If you go to the Settings app and turn off Desert Fox restore state on launch it will delete the corrupt data and you can play the game again but you start over So you cant save where you were after 12ish turns Normally Id rate this as a 1 star but they did such a nice job in other ways I give it two stars If they fix it its a solid 5 stars BTW my iPad Air2 is running iOS 81        Good game if it they fixed the bug

I agree with many other reviewers A simple tweak to ensure balance in the Campaign and preventing it from becoming a quagmire would be to force interphase refit pauses rather then leaving that in the hands of the commonwealth player The game also needs a bit of chrome for the Axis similar to the air superiority that the Commonwealth has Perhaps a Haboob assault once per campaign which inflicts command confusion on the Commonwealth I eagerly look forward to more titles from Shenandoah in this series I highly recommend to the developers a Race to Tunis or a Kasserine Pass game possibly combining the two with one long intermissionlike refit                 Pretty good could be better

My brother and I both bought this game for our iPad Every game we start cant be finished due to bugs and crashes on both iPads Terrible garbage If they had any class the would take it off the market and refund everyone     Buggy Mess

This is a well designed game with greater depth to the strategic choices than the first two titles The crashing has worsened since iOS 8 which makes it almost unplayable Please fix SS           Greater Depth but crashes

This is the first hex out of the 3 hex games they sell that I played and its my favorite The mines are a lot of fun and add a challenge to the game Sieg Heil                 Honest

I put off writing a review of Desert Fox until I had played a bunch of games so that I could see how it compared to its predecessors Drive on Moscow and Bulge The verdict nowhere near as good Desert Fox uses the same tried and true system but with a few tweaks The short Ruweisat Ridge scenario is balanced and fun but the campaign is a total slog There are 22 weeks of seven turns each with possible pauses to build up supply and lay mines etc These pauses are essential to making the game a reasonable length and to simulate the actual campaign but the Commonwealth player soon learns its better never to take them which means the game just slogs on and on with the Axis player able to do little due to lack of supply Also the weakened state of many units at 1 or 2 steps means the luck of the die often has a far greater impact here than in previous games especially since those units are worth 5 or 6 vps when killed In short Ive played Shenandoahs other games hundreds of times and consider them some of the best competitive games on iOS but I dont see myself playing this one much more if at all        Not up to par

The other reviews warned me The game is useless crashes and wont reset and shenandoah ignores the problem They are stealing 10 and should be taken out and flayed alive Any moral human being would remove the game from circulation until they resolve the problem They are clearly immoral STAY AWAY FROM THE GAME IT DOESNT WORK AND THEY ARENT FIXING IT OR RESPONDING TO COMPLAINTS     why didnt I listen

Pretty and well presented but it reminded me of why I quit playing this type of war game The mechanic of having only units in one sector before the enemy does the same is really annoying Coordinated attacks from different sectors should be possible Many units dont move at all because of the time constraints If you enjoy moving little counters on a map and swearing at the die rolls you might enjoy it I didnt        Old school

Game Center integration is broke so multiplayer games have significant issues Also there is some play balance issues with this game but the developer was acquired by slitherine They want to move this to cross platform so no support is being given or bugs fixed     Multiplayer broken beware

This game lives up to its predecessors and more The AI is a little lacking but in this game terrain and supply have to be watched much more carefully as well as the minefields which are a fantastic edition I was worried about having the game unfairly balanced against the Germans but with the use of the refits its really not All in all the game keeps everything great about bulge and moscow but with some really great improvements                 Awesome

They have done it again Still feels like it fits with the other 2 games in the series but it plays out differently The production values are increased as are the visuals and the sounds Cant wait to learn this Worth every penny What are they gonna do next Maybe a dday or operation market garden Maybe a game with more strategic could be really fun Either way I will be getting it Cant recommend this game enough 55 stars                 Another great game for Shennadoah

Just bought it Got to the last tutorial and now it crashes every time I try to open it Im not happy     Does not work

Itd be fun if it worked Big display bugs and my multiplayer games keep getting corrupted and are unable to be completed As a fan of the series I would highly recommend skipping this     Broken Multiplayer

Battle of the Bulge Bold and beautiful Drive on Moscow Brash and yes even brilliant Ive played them both many dozens of times and enjoyed every minute Desert Fox well its a bit of a snore Dont get me wrong this is a wonderfully well crafted effort The mechanics are fluid the game plays smoothly and it is indeed lovely to look at But in the end I find myself yawning And I admit the whole Refit vs Offensive machination leaves me cold Its sort of like building a game about the German invasion of France but only doing the part after Dunkirk Why bother When I think of how engaging it would have been to play the WWII African campaign from start to finish with Rommel desperately driving on Alexandria before Malta can tighten its deadly strangle hold and Commonwealth forces build up their inevitable overwhelming strength I just cant help wishing Shenandoah had rethought the games basic premise Good effort over all but a fatally flawed concept Looking forward to their next           I wish I could like this more but

I have been playing this app a lot and i love it but now the screen size is broken it doesnt fit the the screen it is a small box in the left bottom corner it doesnt allow me to play the game plz fix this issue           Amzing but screen size is broken

This game is fantastic Tons of depth difficulty and polish                 Lots of fun

Fun game not quite as good as Bulge and Moscow but nice change of pace Unfortunately I can no longer play as it crashes on start up Happened before 802 and no relief reloading              Really like but crashing on startup

I read the reviews that said this update was broken but I optimistically thought this wouldnt apply to me Nope downloaded on iOS 81 iPad and the game was broken out of the box weird screen size issues and no responsiveness to touch Its too bad because I love the other two games by Shenandoah Reading around it sounds like the lack of responsiveness to this buggy release could be related to the recent purchase by Slytherin Hope they can get this series back on track        Too bad I really wanted to play this game

I have not encountered the bug problems or crashing that others have But I have NOT upgraded to iOS 8 that may be part of the problems that others have encountered I like the game very much It is challenging Mark has done a good job putting this one together I teach history at a public university am considering using this app for my course on WW II next semester                 Good Game

This is possibly the best strategy game Ive played on iOS The simplistic nature of the game its historic accuracy and possibility for amazing tactical decisions is great The price is a bit steep but I think it is worth it                 Awesome Strategy Game

This is an excellent game It is beautifully crafted and clearly built on the basis of much research The game rules have lots of nuances which make it both interesting and fun The constraints imposed on play by the limitation of supply make it challenging and gives it a feel of being true to life I found the tutorials to be very helpful and the rules were comprehensive without being too difficult to master The tips for each side were also useful to get going It is definitely a strategy game and you might want to check out Shenandoahs website to make sure this is the type of game you like If you do this is an outstanding product and for me very good value for money                 Great Game

Im not a wargamer expert at all but I found this deep yet easy to learn The tutorials are not very smooth but still useful Desert Fox continues the very high quality of the Crisis in Command series but also includes new gameplay features and structures that produce a very different experience from the first two and are not just superficial The AI seems better than the first two though it is still flawed at the lowest level and too slow at the highest But all these games are really meant to be played vs humans not the AI                 Excellent game
