Bottom Line: For more information about Bookends On Tap check developer Sonny Software, LLC`s website : http://www.sonnysoftware.com/

Bookends On Tap is a reference management app that lets you search the "Google Scholar" and PubMed for references and download them, with pdfs (requires access privileges), to your personal library. Use the built-in browser ...
It works well with the computer version and yes the database can sync with dropbox you just need to use the suffix bdb on your library file                 The app is easy to use
I have been using Bookends since its original version a Hypercard stack or based on Hypercard as I recall It ran on a Mac SE running System 4 Bookends has always been easier to use than other reference managers and best of all Sonny Software has always kept it up to date and provided good customer support As you might expect my databases have gotten quite large over the 30 years I have been using the software It took me a few minutes with the documentation provided at the Sonny Software web site to get my largest database over 3200 refs synced with my iPhone 6 64 G The sync itself went very quickly despite of the large size of the database and large of attached files In spite of the large size of the database Bookends on Tap handles it well no lags etc I love having my databases in my pocket I wish I had it at our Thanksgiving get together when as part of several discussions my friends family etc asked where I had gotten that info I expect it to be very handy when I am in class teaching and can provide quick access to the sources of the scientific data that we are discussing My only complaint is that setting up the sync is a bit cumbersome I did have to spend some time with their documentation to get it done And so far it appears that you can sync only one database at a time I have another that I would like to have access to from my phone              Very Handy
Tried to sync just one folder and its associated attachments Easily synced the folder But when tried to add the attachments the program started to load all 3k attachments of my entire bookends file Dont see any options to prevent that from happening Otherwise seems similar to desktop app If you just want to dump your entire bookends file this will not be a problem           Mostly good but a little disappointed
Great app for cataloging research Would be handy to have news feeds and other web searching capabilities integrated google genomeweb NIH grants database etc              Very Handy
I used bookends in my graduate thesis lab for organizing my references and annotating manuscripts and the thesis itself Bookends on Tap allows me to carry my library and use my library on the go on the iPhone or iPad I also want to emphasize that you can open the attached pdfs in any viewer you have installed on the your iPad including Goodreader and iAnnotate and save it back to attach to your library When syncing to your mac the annotatedmodified pdf attachment will be saved as well Bookends on Tap provides the functionality of the full program at least as far as my usage is concerned I was excited and pleased that Sonny Software continues to support Bookends and provides these apps A must have for Mac users with Bookends 1126 and an iPad                 Bookends on tap a most have for Mac users using bookends 1126 or newer
I had Bookends 12 on my Mac for about a year before finally taking the plunge on BEoT which I have running on both my iPad Air and iPhone 5S I never realised how useful it is to have my reference library with me until I spent two weeks over in the UK doing research in various academic libraries On my iPhone I have it synced with ONLY the reference information ie no attachments When Im browsing the aisles and come across a source that looks interesting it remains incredibly useful to be able to pull out your phone and within a few seconds confirm if you have this resource already Over on the iPad I have the same but have included the attachments Again there are times when the MBP is not at hand and I want to be able to seeread what the content of that particular article was being able to sit with a 25GB academic library including 2600odd papers on my iPad and therefore with me regardless of whether I am on a trainbusplanelibrarycoffeeshop is highly recommended I certainly dont use the apps to their fullest potential I annotate in other apps that suit my workflow integration with Devonthink Pro Office over on my macs I dont really search for new material through the apps although I could simply preferring to do that on my MBP plugged into an external monitor Thats not to say I couldnt use BEoT to do all of this but my needs dont require it That being said I wish every other app out there had BEoTs sync engine Its quite frankly amazing Maybe Im just used to really bad experiences with syncing heres looking at you DevonthinkToGo Day One and Documents by Readdle but BEoT is simply flawless Big or small it finds the library first time every time and syncs first time every time Some of my PDFs are huge 60mb but it just gobbles them up without any issues Its caused me to become increasingly frustrated with iCloud and other related sync services after having seen what is possible with BEoT Support is quick and concise Some might find it a bit abrupt at times but I think things sometimes get lost in translation across the Internet ether brush it off they are quick and almost always get things sorted within hours Superb If youre having doubts test the Lite version Nobrainer imo and the reason why all the other Reference Managers available wont get a secondglance from me                 Brilliant companion app
The iPad version of bookends is a different interface than on Mac and not easy to use The sync works seamlessly but finding directions to assure all toggles are on correctly are lost at end of hard to find help menu Not what I wanted as a complement to the very good program on my MacBook           A bit confusing
I have used the Mac for a long time it definitely work well So I found out the iPad and iPhone version as its portable touch However I find the search engine of Google scholar which I use too much does not work So please repair this online search Thanks And I suggest whether can add more search engine like web of science Sci finder so as to more professional and convenient for scientific research usage           It works but need improvement for the online search
This works really well bit of a learning curve but well worth it Any problems I had the developers answered top marks for customer support                 Great App
Easy to use good search capabilities Needs a few things such as a search option for the full text of an article as opposed to the PDF Needs clearer ezproxy instructions Sync works great if you are on the same network I ran into issues when I was not on my home network All in all its an incredibly useful app Update lots of quirks that could be smoothed out Sync doesnt work always Its a pain to import reds to groups           Easy to use great companion to bookends
Ive been using Bookends for a few years and was looking forward to this portable version Bookends on Tap easily synchronizes to Bookends for the Mac but it seems to be missing a few features 1 I didnt see in the help file how to delete a library that I dont want on the iPhone 2 Books seem to be listed in the order they were added to the library I would prefer to have books in order by something more logical like publication year or title after being ordered by author Bookends for Mac also has this same shortfall because you can only order things by one column at a time not author then title or year Ill like to give Bookends some time to fix the app but when some basic features are missing from the Mac version I doubt theyll be updating the On Tap version anytime soon These applications may be great for academic use but are not so great for normal use On Tap needs to be more userfriendly and more flexible especially given the price           Its okay but needs work
This appeared to be one pretty useless piece of software that cannot even import from google scholar existing profiles        Not worth 10 at all
Sonnysofts Bookends for Mac is the premiere reference manager It is fullfeatured regularly updated and has incredible support Their new iPhoneiPad companion Bookends on Tap is all that you would expect Syncing with my large library took only a couple of minutes syncing my PDF attachments took a couple minutes more I now have all my references and attached articles at hand on my iPhone and iPad I love the feature that lets me email references with article attached if I want Bookends on Tap has a surprisingly complete set of options for a first version app At 10 this app is a nobrainer for academics students and researchers who regularly use Bookends                 Simply great
Now this app can import multiple references from an emailed RIS file This new feature is apparently in response to suggestions from users This and other abilities makes this app a truly useful way of storing references on IOS devices              now it does what I want
After trying iPad and Mac versions of Sente and Endnote and finding them lacking Ive settled on Bookends The iPad version is a dependable companion to the Mac version and Ive rarely encountered such a responsive developer Only one aspect leaves me dissatisfied highlighting multiple lines of text in pdf files within the app doesnt work well so I export the files and annotate in GoodReader              Solid reference manager
Does not synchronize with Dropbox Box WebDAV ownCloud or any other popular service Does not export to Bibtex No good search capabilities I cannot see Google citation index Or any other index     No synchronization with popular servers and formats
A single app to store all the PDFs I use every day with their bibliographic information AND I can annotate directly from the app I want to kiss Bookends on Tap 20 right on the mouth                 Spectacular app
Bookends on Tap is a good way to always have your references notes and journal articles close at hand              Improving
Great first release with flawless syncing of your library Theres still some room for improvement including 1 Cloud syncing via iCloud or preferably Dropbox 2 Piaaazzz I can somewhat forgive the desktop app for being rather ugly but I really wish the developers would prioritize looks more Functionality where BE has ALWAYS been the king is more important but I really do like stuff that looks good too Bookends isnt it 3 A better PDF engine and annotations just look to GoodReader and you know what I mean 4 Better handling of labels etc I use labels to mark unread important papers etc I would like the ability to edit label on my iDevice and sync it back to the desktop app But again as I already said this is one solid and brilliant first release And just in case you were wondering yes Papers looks nicer but is no match for Bookends in all other areas Bookends simply is so much better on the desktop or iDevice                 Finally and its great
Perfect sync first time PDF open in I Annotate etc Google Scholar search downloads PDFs in a blink WoW I have seen how other major developers apps suffered from broken sync They can take a lesson from this app                 Flawless
Eagerly waited for this application to come online to replace Papers application Any attempt to sync crashes the desktop application and one cannot sync the database Useless until it can be fixed Update I verified repaired and rebuilt my old database but was still unable to sync to the iOS app The solution was to export my library and import it into a new one from the desktop application all lists had to be recreated a real pain I am a longtime Bookends user since v80 and love the desktop application My rating is not intended to disparage the developer or desktop application but the iOS version just doesnt seem ready despite all the hard work that likely went into it Having synced my database to my iPad all worked well for about a day Now when I open the iOS application all I see is No reference selected I cannot move beyond this screen as there is no longer any button to tap Ive restarted the application and rebooted The only solution I have now is to remove the application and start over I have 1300 pdf files linked and starting over for the third time is a headache Requested fixes 1 When choosing sync all references allow for smart lists to also be synced To get smart lists synced I have to choose selected groups and then click each list individually 2 synced smart lists should sync in the same order as the desktop database Mine sync in reverse alphabetical order 3 when trying to edit a pdf on the iPad after exporting to iAnnotate then back to BOT the following sync to the desktop application gives a null database error and the pdf file isnt sent back although the record of it is The sync will never finish when this happens I had to start over for the second time 4 allow for deleting linked files this could have potentially solved issue 3 I want to like this application and realize it is a 10 version but I was hoping it would be as solid as the desktop app Please fix so I can replace Papers My database 1300 references from Pubmed 1300 linked pdf files all synced 28 smart lists 25 static lists     sync crash updated
All in all a very useful app It is nice to have all your reference database with you at all time I wish you would allow the export of formatted citations through iMessages and not only email It would also be handy if the app would open an interface to a barcode scanner to add references by scanning ISBN barcodes                 Very useful and should be further developed
I bought this app thinking I could import PubMed on Tap references but found that there is no importing ability and will not synch between my devices without purchasing a program for my Mac Since this is just a hobby and not workrelated an investment of 100 is too much just to be able to synch devices So all the reading and work I put into finding articles in PubMed will not be transferable to this filing system and I cant synch my iPhone and iPad The app itself is good but I realized too late that it really isnt designed as a standalone product for nonacademics              Needs clearer description
Great to take your references with you Great companion to Bookends by the way syncing works flawlessly to me And above all great developer You will not only get a great program as is but itll also improve in bounds and leaps listening to users                 Excellent ref manager
In keeping with SonnySoftwares practice this is a frequently updated app each update adding crucial new features I carry around with a vast library of PDFs all linked to a quickly searchable database frequently synchronized to my desktop version of the software It will only get better with each iteration and is already indispensable Theres nothing like it anywhere in the universe of reference managing software                 Wonderful addition
This app can not connected to the database inside university After I ask their support their respond was short and did not give any specific suggestions This attitude is really bad Please not buy it     Junk App
A marvelously effective implementation of the Mac app on two different iOS devices The interfaces are clear The function is quick The syncing is fast and easy Not cheap but worth it                 Great on both iPad Mini iPhone
